What Is Transistor ? Explain Difference Between Transistors And Vaccum Tubes (IC T1 Q7)

transistor (short for transfer resistance) is made up of semi-conductors and is a component used to control the amount ofcurrent or voltage or used for amplification/modulation or switching of an electronic signal. The transistor is the primary building block of all microchips, including your CPU, and is what creates the binary 0's and 1's your computer uses to communicate. In the picture to the right, are examples of what transistors may look like.

Some of the difference between Transistors and Vaccum Tubes that i studied in middle school are

> Transistors are a lot smaller than Vacuum Tubes !

> Vacuum Tubes get heated quickly where as Transistors also get heated but not as much as Vacuum Tubes...

> Vacuum Tubes are more expansive while compared to Transistors

> Vacuum Tubes are used in First Generation Computers and Transistors are used in Second Generation Computers

> Vacuum Tubes are used between 1940 - 1956 and Transistors are used between 1956 - 1963

So, I hope you get the basic difference between Transistor and Vacuum Tube
