How do I hide a file in Windows?

An easy way to help protect a file from being accidentally deleted is to hide the file. To hide a file in Windows right-click the file and click Properties to get a window similar to the example below.

In the File Properties window check the Hidden checkbox and click Ok. If you have not changed the default view of how Windows shows files, the file should disappear and become hidden. If show hidden files is enabled in Windows the file will still be visible, but the icon will be a light version of the original icon, similar to the "hiddden.txt" in the example below.
